This is Myrtle. She is in the Shelby County Animal Shelter (aka dog pound) in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Nope, there's nothing special about this dog. No pedigree bloodline, no amazing tricks, no unique features...nothing other than the fact that she appears to have a sweet spirit that is encased in a dog's body.

We don't know her story. She came as a stray and no one has ever claimed her. Someone has loved her for many years, but now she sits on a concrete floor with metal fencing all around her...just waiting. Her teeth and her eyes show her age. Her teeth are dingy yellow. Her eyes appear cloudy, indicating she may have cataracts. I'm sure she was cute as button as a puppy, now she sits as just another ugly mutt in a kill shelter. No one looks at her twice. The only attention she receives is by the shelter staff that give her an occasional pat when they are refilling her water and food bowl.

She wagged her tail vigorously when she saw us approaching her with a leash. Poor old girl probably thought she was going home, but we were only wanting to take her picture. She seemed nervous on the leash, probably because she hasn't been walked on a leash in years. But once we sat in the chair to pet her, she came alive with affection. We are truly relying on this email to save her life. The chances of someone walking through the shelter door wanting to adopt her when there are plenty of puppies and other young dogs to adopt are very, very slim.

She's impound #29.





Her adoption fee is $65 and includes a $30 voucher for her spay surgery at a vet of your choice.

This shelter is rescue friendly and does not charge any pull fees for reputable rescue organizations. THE RECEIVING RESCUE MUST MAKE ALL TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS.

Please, let's spread the word about Myrtle. She deserves a home to lay her head for the next few years.

Even though this shelter does try very hard to find homes or rescues for all their animals, unfortunately they DO have to euthanize. Let's not let this happen to Myrtle!
